What you should know about "on the go"support in you smart phone (OTG)

Android phones these days are customized with seamless and user friendly hardwares and softwares to meet up with the everyday expectations of consumer for easier and more fashionable mobile experience. Coupled with the high demand for innovations and competition for market dominance by mobile products producers, most recent phones are equipped with more options and operations to outsmart earlier ones and competitors. One of such very important innovation is " on the go" OTG support facility in some smart  phones. Though this development have been existing as far as android 7.0, but have not been fully utilized or publicised by users due to inadequate knowledge of how it can be of use or help for better mobile life experience.

Below are how OTG  support can be of great use if your phone supports it.

1. Save media files in flash drives or memory card.

When you plug in a flash drive in your phone through your charging port,  enable OTG function if it pops up on your screen upon inserting the OTG flash  or enable it through the settings,(though some phones can automatically enable OTG upon dictating the device) you can copy files like videos, music, photos to the flash drive in the the file manager application in your phone. This idea helps you to free up the memory space in your phone by shifting those file to a removable memory like flash drive or memory card, also you can copy or move it back to your phone same way when ever you want to.

2. Backup and storage for critical files and information

When you have such files that are so important that you don't want to lose  in the case of phone damage or loss, like family or personal photos, special event videos and photos, documents format files, sounds and videos, contacts etc. Also such important files that should be kept from other persons view or access. You can copy them out into a removable srorage like flash drive or memory card from your phone through the charging port of your phone using OTG hub and card reader or with flash drive with OTG port. This helps you safeguard such files against loss or  unwanted trespass by another person who have access to your phone. You can even open such files direct from the flash drive or memory when plunged to you phone.

3. Storage for large media files like movies

Instead of having large movies  you don't want delete to fill up your phone memory because of the fact that you have no other way to keep them, through OTG support you can save and watch such movies or musics from a removable memory or flash drive whenever you want, just plug your flash drive through the charging port, enable OTG support, then access and watch your videos  and play tour musics direct from the flash and unplug when you are done and keep for another time.

4. Receive large files direct into the flash drve from xender  app or download from web.

When you phone memory is not enough to receive  files you need from someone maybe through xender or a file you want to download from internet, as long as your phone has OTG support you can acquire those files direct into your flash drive with OTG port. For downloads from internet, plug the flash drive, enable OTG then just go to settings in your phone and change default storage location to that removable  OTG drive ( flash drive or memory card) before downloading. By this instead of recieving such file into the meagre phone memory it will download into the OTG memory.  Also when you wish to receive large files like movies into your flash from xender, all you need to do is to plug the flash drive in your charging port , enable OTG then open xender  application and go to xender settings and change the download location to the OTG drive, then such big files will be received direct into your flash drive or memory card with out interfering with your phone memory.

5. Charging other phones

Phones with OTG support can power another phone or mobile device with the use of OTG hub, port and cable. This can be of help when there is a low battery on a particular mobile device that is urgently needed to function. But continuously depending on an OTG mobile phone as a source of power for another device is not advisable because the service is meant to serve for emergencies. Excessive use of OTG device to charge other ones may badly affect the battery performance of the host phone.

6. Phone to phone share of files  with data cable

An OTG supported phone can copy or move files to another phone with the aid of OTG hub or port and a data cable. Files like media, documents, settings and accounts can be moved to another phone via OTG support.
